The Tortoise and the Hare

The Hare was once boasting of his speed before other animals. "I have never been beaten," said he, "when I put forth my full speed. I challenge any one here to race with me."

The Tortoise said quietly, "I accept your challenge."

"That is a good joke," said the Hare; "I could dance round you all the way."

"Keep your boasting till you've won," answered the Tortoise. "Shall we race?"

So a course was fixed and a start was made. The Hare darted almost out of sight at once, but soon stopped and, to show his contempt for the Tortoise, lay down to have a nap. The Tortoise plodded on and plodded on, and when the Hare awoke from his nap, he saw the Tortoise just near the winning-post and could not run up in time to save the race.

Then the Tortoise said: "Slow but steady progress wins the race."

從前有一只兔子，他在其它動(dòng)物面前吹噓自己跑得是如何如何的快?！爱?dāng)我全速奔跑的時(shí)候，我從來(lái)沒(méi)有被打敗過(guò)，”他說(shuō)，“誰(shuí)敢跟我比一比?”

“我來(lái)跟你跑一場(chǎng)”，一只烏龜沉著地說(shuō)。

“快笑死我了，” 兔子說(shuō)，“我一邊跑一邊圍著你跳舞都能贏你”。

“你跑贏了再吹牛吧”，烏龜說(shuō)，“我們可以開始比賽了嗎?”

于是，他們確定了一條比賽路線和起點(diǎn)。比賽開始，兔子是嗖的一聲就跑得沒(méi)影了，但他很快就停了下來(lái)?！榱俗尀觚斨浪](méi)把烏龜放在眼里，兔子決定睡上一覺(jué)再接著跑。　這時(shí)，烏龜正一點(diǎn)一點(diǎn)艱難地向前爬著。　當(dāng)兔子一覺(jué)醒來(lái)，發(fā)現(xiàn)烏龜離終點(diǎn)已經(jīng)很近了，要追已經(jīng)趕不上了。

這時(shí)，烏龜說(shuō)：“踏踏實(shí)實(shí)、一步步前進(jìn)，你就會(huì)贏得比賽”。

有一天，兔子和烏龜比賽跑步，兔子嘲笑烏龜爬得慢，烏龜說(shuō)：“總有一天我會(huì)贏的?！?

兔子就輕蔑地說(shuō)：“那我們現(xiàn)在就開始比賽!”

烏龜答應(yīng)了，兔子大聲喊道：“比賽開始!”

兔子飛快地跑著，烏龜拼命地爬著。

不一會(huì)兒，兔子與烏龜已經(jīng)離的有很大一段距離了。兔子認(rèn)為比賽太輕松了，它要先睡一會(huì)，并且自以為是地說(shuō)即使自己睡醒了烏龜也不一定能追上它。

而烏龜呢，它一刻不停地爬行，爬呀爬呀，到兔子那里的時(shí)候，它已經(jīng)累得不行了，但烏龜想如果這時(shí)和兔子一樣去休息，那比賽就不會(huì)贏了，所以烏龜繼續(xù)地爬呀爬呀。

當(dāng)兔子醒來(lái)的時(shí)候?yàn)觚斠呀?jīng)到達(dá)終點(diǎn)了。

故事里的兔子太驕傲自大了，這是伊索寓言里面的一個(gè)小故事。這個(gè)故事告訴我們：不可輕易小視他人。虛心使人進(jìn)步，驕傲使人落后. 要踏踏實(shí)實(shí)地做事情，不要半途而廢，才會(huì)取得成功。
