On a shiny green leaf sat a small green chameleon.

在一片閃亮的綠葉上趴著一只綠色的小變色龍。

It moved onto a brown tree and turned brownish.

它爬到褐色的樹(shù)干上就變成了褐色。

Then it rested on a red flower and turned reddish.

它停在一朵紅色的花朵上就變成了紅色。

When the chameleon moved slowly across the yellow sand , it turned yellowish.

當(dāng)它慢慢爬過(guò)一片黃沙地，就變成了黃色。

You could hardly see it.

你幾乎很難發(fā)現(xiàn)它。

When the chameleon was warm and had something to eat , it turned sparkling green.

變色龍暖和又有東西吃的時(shí)候，就變成亮麗的綠色。

But when it was cold and hungry ,it turned grey and dull.

當(dāng)它又冷又餓時(shí)，它就變成暗淡的灰色。

When the chameleon was hungry ,it sat still and waited.

變色龍餓了，就一動(dòng)不動(dòng)的趴著等待。

Only its eyes moved-up , down ,sideways-until it spotted a fly.

僅僅是眼睛上上下下，忽左忽右的轉(zhuǎn)動(dòng)——直到盯住了一只蒼蠅。

Then the chameleon's long and sticky tongue shot out and caught the fly.

那時(shí)，變色龍的長(zhǎng)長(zhǎng)的，黏黏的舌頭就會(huì)射出去，捉住蒼蠅。

That was its life .It was not very exciting.

But one day...

...the chameleon saw a zoo !

It had never seen so many beautiful animals.

The chameleon thought：How small I am, how slow , how weak !

I wish I could be big and white like a polar bear.

And the chameleon's wish came true.

變色龍夢(mèng)想成真了。

But was it happy?No !

I wish I could be handsome like a flamingo.

我要像火烈鳥(niǎo)那樣漂亮。

I wish I could be smart like a fox.

我要像狐貍那樣聰明。

I wish I could swim like a fish.

我要像魚(yú)兒會(huì)游泳。

I wish I could run like a deer.

我要像鹿會(huì)奔跑。

I wish I could see things for away like a giraffe.

我要像長(zhǎng)頸鹿那樣看得很遠(yuǎn)很遠(yuǎn)。

I wish I could hide in a shell like a turtle.

我要像烏龜那樣能藏在殼里。

I wish I could be strong like an elephant.

Just then a fly flew by.

The chameleon was very hungry.
